![]() Here’s a tip: Don’t forget that you can click on Catie herself. ![]() Now, what can I do with those scissors? Taking a moment to enjoy the night sky. Overall, though, the game feels like a string of random events, which is partly what makes the puzzles difficult. Another level, involving musical cat statues, has less of a story but a clear goal: tune an instrument. One level I liked has puzzles revolving around a snail who wants to be fast. Narratively, some levels are much better than others. What’s missing is a sense of narrative connection, between levels and within levels. The animations and sound effects are very well-done. It feels very much like an interactive picture book, and I’d love to see more games in this style. Visually, the game is on par with the best of children’s picture books. Rather than experiencing a story, Catie has you focus on experiencing a colorful, surreal, delightfully unpredictable world. Story-wise, the premise is clear and simple: Help Catie get home. Characters communicate their feelings with a few vigorous gestures and growls, rather than lines of dialogue. When there’s a speech bubble, which is rare, it uses pictures instead of written words. Which is all fine and, in fact, the game takes a refreshing approach. Down the Rabbit HoleĬatie in Meowmeowland is a point-and-click that’s light on story and heavy on puzzles. Giant cat lounging with a pipe, guarded by a skateboarding cat. Giant cat lounging in a greenhouse, nothing unusual. But unfortunately, that makes the player’s job difficult when they’re solving puzzles which seem to lack logical connections at times. As in Alice’s dream, things don’t have to make sense here. Which means they fit right at home in Meowmeowland, a beautiful but bizarre place. ![]() Except this is Meowmeowland and, yes, there are cats. Like Alice, little girl Catie falls into a rabbit hole that takes her to Wonderland. Catie in meowmeowland code#Review code used, with many thanks to Stride PR. System: Nintendo Switch (also on Steam, Windows, & macOS)ĭeveloper|Publisher: ARTillery | Blowfish Studios Seeing the aggression of certain characters is a fun change of tone that adds more to the screen, and hearing Catie’s call out when you click on her is just plain cute.Genre: Point-and-Click, Adventure, Puzzle The relaxing soundtrack helps to keep the tone down as you attempt to solve the fun and at-times complicated puzzles. Although it is not quite as impressive as the art style, the game is complimented so much by the soundtrack and quirky sounds that comes from the various characters throughout. The sound design is another area that excels tremendously. It helps to eliminate any major confusion that other point-and-click games have, but the trade-off is that MeowmeowLand is quite easy by comparison. Instead, this is a much simpler puzzle game where everything is subject to the screen at hand. ![]() Catie in meowmeowland series#Unlike other point-and-clicks, though, Catie in MeowmeowLand does not have the most complicated back-and-forth sequences where you need to collect and trade a series of items. The controls are simple and use the joystick to control a cursor that allows you to interact with characters and objects as you try to solve puzzles. In regards to gameplay, this is your standard and quite traditional point-and-click adventure. For a point-and-click adventure, this is such a great setting, because this is exactly the style of game that will let you sit and absorb all that is happening on screen to truly appreciate it. In many ways, it looks like Salvador Dalí and Andy Warhol collaborated on this one, as the abstract design obviously borrows from popular artists while also being its own. Catie in meowmeowland full#Each one-screen puzzle is so full of life and color, and it is amazing the amount of detail put into everything. I have to be honest, Catie in MeowmeowLand is not something I thought I would enjoy, but I just could not stop playing it. You exit out of the anus of a large white cat, and as if nothing past this point is strange, Catie just accepts this reality and tries to solve puzzles en route to the end. In this beyond abstract and bizarre title, you play as Catie, a young girl who just happened to follow a white cat in her garden that mysteriously brought her to a faraway world known as MeowmeowLand. Well, right out of the gate is your first cat b-hole. ![]()
